In the course of refurbishment of the four landmarked former gas tanks in Vienna's 11th municipal district, apartments, offices, areas for retailers and gastronomers were created providing facilities that are interesting for young people in particular. Among others, the architectural gesamtkunstwerk comprises a multi-purpose hall (approx. 7500 m2), a nursery, car parking spaces, and above all the Gasometer B hall of residence for 247 students, opened in 2001.
The accommodation is divided over 5 floor levels, offering a lot of room for individual requirements. Students may choose between single and double rooms or even one of the spacious studio apartments. Many extras such as a generously equipped wellness and fitness area, rehearsal rooms for students of music, a laundrette, as well as common rooms complement the offer. A bridge connects the Gasometer Mall with an entertainment and movie center.
Through connection to the U3 underground line, both the universities, the city (within 10 minutes) and the West-, Süd-, Nordbahnhof train stations, as well as the new Hauptbahnhof (central station) and Vienna airport are within easy reach. Via the bicycle-friendly Gaswerksteig you can get to the local recreation area of Praterauen within a few minutes.
At weekends and before public holidays, the Vienna underground and night buses provide nighthawks with all they need for a hot night of partying.
